Each day, Meeder analyzes and ranks over 70 different factors from our short, intermediate, and long-term models. The dynamic statistical model incorporates factors covering macroeconomic, fundamental, trends and technical analysis to estimate the potential reward and marketplace risk of the equity markets. The Meeder Spectrum, Muirfield, Balanced, Moderate Allocation, and Conservative Allocation funds utilize this strategy for the Defensive Equity portion of their portfolios. The Defensive Equity Strategy guides the allocation of each fund’s equity sleeve and the actual proportion of equity investments in any fund will vary depending on the investment objectives of the fund.

QUICK TAKE

Real earnings yields (S&P 500 earnings yield -CPI YOY) remain low relative to history but the combination of improving earnings and inflation retracting from its peak is a good sign for potential improvement in this factor in the coming months.

Investor sentiment is far from euphoric –AAII bears still outnumber bulls, and demand for downside protection in the options market has been quietly picking up even as the S&P 500 hits record highs. You typically don’t see that combination at market tops.

The S&P 500 Index logged its third consecutive weekly gain and reached a new all-time high on Thursday. All short-term trend and momentum factors remain in positive territory.

Based on current market risk conditions, our factors indicate a much lower probability of a significant near-term correction in the equity markets relative to historic norms.
